HOW TO REGISTER TO VOTE

·         If you are not yet registered to vote, you can register at your local city hall, township government office, or Secretary of State’s offices.  Some public libraries also have voter registration services.

·         If you register at a city hall or library, you will most likely have to register to vote in the county where you live.

·         In order to register, you must be a US citizen and be at least 18 years of age by the date of the next election.  In addition, by election day you must have lived at your current address for at least 30 days.

·       In order to register you generally need at least two documents with your name and address.  These might include a driver’s license, a utility bill, apartment lease, rent receipt with your name and address, a high school ID or similar documents.

·         Of course you do not have to be registered to vote in order to contact your state legislators.  A letter from a non-registered voter is better than no letter at all, but a letter from a registered voter is better still.  And of course if you are registered to vote, then you can base your votes in the next election, at least in part, on the kind of responses you get from your legislators!
