Contacting Your Members of CongressAdvocating for Improved Mental Health ServicesMost the information on the Illinois Legislative page is also true about contacting your US Senators and your Representative in Congress. Like your state legislators, your members of Congress want to hear from you too. The only difference is that each US legislator represents many more people. A US Congressional District contains about 10 times as many people as an Illinois State Legislative District, and of course we have two US Senators to represent the whole state.
Nevertheless, many issues regarding mental illness are national issues. So on some issues you may want to contact your members of Congress. If you want to contact your members of the US House and Senate here are some tips: 1. If you know who your US Congressman and Senators are and would like some writing tips, click here. 2. US Representatives are elected from Congressional districts. Your Congressional district numbers can be found on the back of your voter registration card. If you aren’t yet registered to vote and would like to learn how, click here.
