How to Find Your Members of Congress Page

HOW TO FIND OUT WHO YOUR REPRESENTATIVES IN CONGRESS ARE

·         Illinois has two Senators, Dick Durbin and Barak Obama.  Each represents the whole state.

·         Illinois is divided into 20 Congressional Districts, each electing one Representative to Congress.

·         Most of NAMI Barrington Area’s service region is in either the 8th or the 10th Congressional District.

The easiest way to determine your US Congressional District is to check on the back of your voter registration card.  Most Illinois counties include this information on voter registration cards.

If you can’t locate your voter registration card, or if you are not yet registered to vote, or can’t find out which Congressional District you live in, NAMI Illinois has a legislative district locator.  All you have to do is to type in your address and the service will tell you your Congressional District.   You can find this district locator at the NAMI Illinois website:

http://il.nami.org/advocacy.htm

The Illinois State Board of Elections maintains a similar service.  It can be accessed at:

http://www.elections.il.gov/DistrictLocator/AddressSearch.aspx

Or in NAMI Barrington Area’s general vicinity, you could use the rough descriptions below:

The northern suburbs, roughly east of Rt. 53 are in the 10th Congressional District.  The 10th District, however, has a little gerrymandered arm that runs west and picks up parts of Rolling Meadows, southern Palatine and most of Inverness.

The northwest suburbs, roughly west of Rt. 53 are in the 8th Congressional District.

Once you know your Congressional District number, the next thing is to find out who your Representative is and where he or she may be reached.  To do this, click here.
